Serving the church,
reaching the world.
For 25 years, thousands of people of all ages, different backgrounds and diverse nationalities have benefited from attending Word Alive. As the Bible has been taught, people have been encouraged, strengthened and equipped to continue serving Jesus in their local churches, workplaces, families and communities.
We would like to invite you to come alongside this vision and partner with us as we continue to serve the church and reach the world through Word Alive.
Under the Lord, the impact of Word Alive to date has been hugely significant:
For Church Members
Our belief in the Bible as God’s living word and our supreme authority means that the Bible will be central in all our activities. The core programme of Word Alive will be Biblical exposition, supported by Bible Overviews and guides to Bible handling.
Engagement with God
Our belief that a personal relationship with God is the centre of human existence will lead us to encourage a real engagement with God through all that happens at Word Alive. We believe that God will be personally addressing us and changing us by his Spirit through his Word. Given that, we want to help each other respond to Him in an appropriate way, whether it be prayer, worship, personal commitment or a change of life-direction.
"As a smallish church, we could not provide such a high-quality event if we organised our own weekend away. The draw card for Word Alive has been that there is always something for everyone in our church family."
Ray Brown, Grace Church, Brockley
For families
From the very youngest to the very oldest, amidst the joy, mess and complications of family life – Word Alive enables families to learn about and praise God together. Many families come from smaller churches. For them the encouragement of being with others is immeasurable. On top of that, the week provides fresh ideas and resources to strengthen children’s and youth ministry back home.
For workers
Word Alive wants to help Christians to engage not withdraw so they are effective witnesses. For those studying or working in politics, science, theology, law, music and the creative arts our ‘Leadership Networks’ provide the expert input of experienced practitioners to help people make a difference for Christ in the world of work.
For students & international students
People’s generosity over the years has enabled us to provide discounted places to thousands of students. For many the week has been life changing. Amazingly, many students have come to trust Jesus for the very first time at the event, and for many more the week has transformed the direction of their entire lives – a new generation committed to living and speaking for Jesus on campus as a Christian Union and beyond.
For everyone
‘With God there are no little people’ – working in partnership with The Lodge Trust, “Count everyone in” takes a main theme from the event and develops a programme for those with learning disabilities. It’s wonderful to have the whole church family together at Word Alive.

For the future
Looking ahead, as well as the wonderful opportunities we are describing, there are real financial challenges for Word Alive.
Pontins, who provide our site, have increased their hire fee substantially, causing a potential shortfall in our ongoing budget of around £100,000.
We continue to look at ways we can cut costs and increase our income. We increase the price for onsite accommodation each year broadly by inflation – a higher increase, even with our bursary schemes, would make the event unaffordable for many.
We are increasingly encouraging guests to book accommodation off site and hope to increase our attendance and income through the sale of their event passes.
We regularly review the costs of running the event and make cuts where we can while still maintaining a quality event that serves our guests well. We have looked at other possible sites and different models for the event in the hope of finding a more economic option, but we have found nothing viable.
Therefore, we need an additional source of funds so we can continue to run a high-quality yet affordable event that serves the whole Church year on year.
Get involved
We would be delighted if you partnered with us by becoming a Friend of Word Alive. Partner with us through:
Prayer
So you can pray in an informed way for our specific needs, we will send you news throughout the year.
Giving financially
Every donation makes a difference in helping ensure Word Alive can continue to run.
We are looking for Friends of this ministry to come alongside us and commit to giving so we can continue to run Word Alive at an affordable level for the years to come. To do this we need gift-aided donations of:
- 50 people giving £50/month
- 100 people giving £20/month
- 150 people giving £10/month
- 200 people giving £5/month
Could you consider which of these amounts you might be able to give? By giving regularly you will enable more people to be built up by God’s Word and sent out to serve Him.
You can become a Friend and start your praying and giving today by visiting our website and clicking on Become a friend of Word Alive and filling out your details. If you would like more information, please contact Nigel Beynon on .
